Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2023

Pulpits are being swapped in Wells, and across Somerset, as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2023.

On Sunday 22 January, the leader of The Methodist Church for Somerset, the Revd Dr Jonathan Pye, will be the guest preacher at the 10:30am Sunday Eucharist at Wells (Anglican) Cathedral.

That evening at 6:30pm, Anglican Bishop Michael Beasley will be the preacher at an ecumenical service organised by Churches Together in Wells to be held at St Joseph and St Teresa's Roman Catholic Church in Wells.

And on Friday 6 January, there was an Orthodox Christmas Vigil for Ukrainians (led by Bath Orthodox Church) held at St Thomas' Anglican Church, in Wells, organised by Churches Together in Somerset.

Canon Jonathan LLoyd, Somerset's County Ecumenical Officer commented 'The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a dynamic moment of prayer.

Between 18 and 25 January churches across the world come together in prayer for unity, in different ways across local communities. Churches of all denominations across the County of Somerset will be joining this great wave of prayer for Christ's unity among and between us.'

Somerset's senior church leaders will be gathering together in retreat and prayer on 28 and 29 January. The annual ecumenical retreat brings together regional leaders of the Anglican, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Baptist, United Reformed Churches, and the Salvation Army.
