About

CTS helps Somerset churches in their united mission and service

CTS is the Intermediate Ecumenical body linking together the national structures of Churches Together in England (CTE) with the local expressions of Christian unity and partnership across the Geographic County of Somerset.

We are the sponsoring body for Local Ecumenical Partnerships and Covenants, the Glastonbury Festival Church Tent and we support local Churches Together groups across the County.

CTS seeks to encourage all areas of ecumenical church life, especially in the areas of:

  • Sharing knowledge and ideas, deepening relationships and creating dialogue between our different Christian traditions so we can learn from one another.

  • Developing and supporting new initiatives and partnerships.

  • Understanding our differences, sharing our gifts and building on what we have in common.

  • Prayer, spirituality and community engagement.

The work of CTS is shaped by our Standing Committee

Made up of two of our senior church leaders, members elected by our AGM and the Denominational Ecumenical Officers. The County Ecumenical Officer, the Rev Canon Jonathan LLoyd, is our 8 hour a week member of staff who coordinates our work.

CTS is a registered Charity in the UK, and the members of the Standing Committee are its Trustees within charity law. The Presidents of CTS are our senior/regional church leaders, who elect a CTS Chair each year. The CTS Chair for 2022-2024 is the Rev Dr Jonathan Pye, Chair of the Bristol District of The Methodist Church.
